Day 13
We drove from Great
Falls back to Cascade and left about 9:30. The day started fairly
cool but ended up about 95 degrees again.
The first rode we
took was called Castner Falls Road out of Cascade for about ever.
Then we followed River Road forever again until we hit an intersection
in the middle of no where and hooked up with Millegan Rd. That road
changed to Wilson Butte Rd. All of these were good gravel or dirt
roads with not many bumps. We could zip along about 40 mph.
We then hooked up
with Ross Rd and that changed to Hunter Rd. We went through the very
little towns of Tracy and Centerville. A few folks live in each of
these towns. We ended up on Spring Creek Road which took us to Highway
87.
We followed Armington
Rd to Cora Creek Rd and eventually got to Geyser. There was a great
little bar there and we got some very good directions from the good folks
at Cabin Creek Bar. We met Annie the manager, Dingo Dog the gainfully
unemployed mayor, John the Rancher and Janet the bartender and great cook.
If you’re ever in town, make sure you don’t park in front of John’s semi.
He has a tendency to leave the parking break off and it has occasionally
rolled through the entire town with no one in it. The good news is
that a house usually stops it before it can do much damage.
We finally rolled
into Winifred about 4:30 and had traveled roughly 172 miles. I could
have gone more, but Larry was getting tired. He has been training
for his 6 days of the trip by lifting weights and jogging. However,
he had forgotten the real secret of preparing for this trip. Rolling
Rock and chicken wings. Larry does want everyone to know that he did save
my life again by running over a rattle snake before I got to it.
Problem was, it just pissed the snake off and by the time I got to him,
he was coiled and ready to strike. That was the most excitement for
the day. Larry’s a hoot!!!
