Day 36

August 1, Tuesday day 36 Val-d-Or to Forsythe

We dropped Jon off at the airport at 9:00 and he had a tear in his eye.  Probably from all of the dirt and dust he has been eating the last week.  After throwing his luggage out of the car without stopping we proceeded to an area about one mile from the airport and there was Maurice waiting for us.

We left the area at 9:30 and headed for Forsythe.  The trip that day was great.  We rode many trails that were in fairly good condition and there were also numerous roads that were average to fair condition.  Rod drove the truck on a different highway to reach the area for the night.

Forsyth is not a city, but simply a place in the woods and very very remote.  It was an old logging or mining camp and it is now known as Domaine Forsythe Inc.  It is owned bhy Jean-Leo and Gemma Berube.  The lodge and restaurant are very clean and comfortable.  They have gasoline and this should definitely be a stop for you if your atving the area.  As a matter of fact, anyplace should be a stop as they are all about a zillion miles apart.  At any rate, the food was great, the rooms were very clean and there are all sorts of cool thinks in the dining/room lounge area that will keep you occupied while your food is being prepared.  The rates are also competitive.  Hats off to Jean-Leo and Gemma.

We arrived at this destination around 5:30 and had put 124 miles on before the day was over.  I don’t have any great stories for the day as there were not any people we encountered along the way.  The area is desolate and I would advise anyone to NOT travel the area without having at least two or three other atvs in the group.  It is also helpful if one of the people can speak French.  If I travel this way again, I will definitely have Maurice or someone like him to be my guide.  Although the trails and roads were nice, they have no signs to speak of.  There are intersections that you have no idea which way to go.  If you are on the major trail 70 your are somewhat safe, but the forest roads are very confusing.  Enough said!

We had a great meal for the evening.  Lasagna and garlic bread, deserts and a few Canadian Molson to wash the dust down.  That’s it for the day.  See Ya tomorrow.

Oh, these updates are getting on the web site late as I have not had internet service and when I do, it is slow or keeps disconnecting every five minutes so I have given up on trying to down load in these conditions.  You will be brought up to date when the connections allow it.  I also am usually typing these at 11:00 or 12:00 at night and I know my spelling leaves something to be desired.  I know what I want to say, I just don’t know how to speel it(that was on purpose so you get the picture)
