August 2nd Wednesday day 37 Forsythe, Quebec to how far we can get. Maurice and I left Forsythe at 10:00 and we had to send Rod back the way he came, then south then west, then south and finally back to the east. We told him we would meet him in Mont-Saint Michel. Well I’m here to tell you that never happened. Maurice had never traveled this portion of the trail before and in hind sight, we probably should have tried to stay on trail 70, but that was going to take us clear to Parent and it would have meant many more miles than we needed to travel. But, as the day unfolded we rode 221 miles of which about 80 were back tracking(no fault of Maruice as there once again were NO signs on any of the intersections). The scary think about these roads was the condition went from fairly good to just a narrow path and then to a decent road again. We did encounter a few people, mostly loggers, as we traveled, but each seemed to have a different version of how we should get to where we wanted to go. Finally around three in the afternoon we were able to reach an establishment that had some food and fuel. We were on total empty with no spare gas. We had some ham sandwiches made up, fueled and once again set out for a mysteries place called Verit or something like that. It is not a town, but simply a place in the woods on a very isolated road. We finally arrived there at 9:30 and were glad to see the lights of this little restaurant. We ended up staying there and the accommodations are very sparse. I understand that the owners have just purchased the place and it does include a camping grounds. Apparently they are going to upgrade and place and have new rooms built. This would be good as the rooms were just large enough for two small beds and left a bit to be desired. I had a beer and hamburger, French fries with gravy and zonked about about 30 seconds after my head hit the pillow. About an hour later I woke up and remembered that Rod was waiting for us 150 miles away, but there was nothing I could do about it. Like he was really worried. So it was an exciting
and exhausting day and I knew the next day would be better. Maurice
assured me it would be and I believe him. I could not have found
a better person to guide me. Maurice is always smiling and very up
beat. I think he is up to something, but I’m not sure what.
See Ya tomorrow!
